I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a licensed Clinical Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the state of Nevada. I maintain a private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I attended Michigan State University and graduated in 1972 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and a BS in Systems Science. I worked as an engineer for 25 years before changing careers. After obtaining a Masters Degree in Theology from Fuller Seminary in 2005, I served as Associate Pastor with a local Christian church in Las Vegas. In 2010 I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Masters Degree in Marraige and Family / Child Therapy. I served my internship at Community Counseling Center in Las Vegas. As a drug and alcohol counselor I was the primary counselor for the Anger Management group, counseling individuals as well as drug and alcohol recovery groups. During my last year I was pleased to serve as Director of Co-Ocurring Disorders, working with clients who have a severe mental health diagnosis along with drug or alcohol dependence. I also had the opportunity to counsel couples, including Co-Occurring couples. I obtained my MFT license in 2013 after logging over 3000 hours working directly with clients.
I do not label myself with any particular therapeutic technique. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Emotionaly Focused Therapies, along with other modes of therapy. My experience in anger management is helpful with many emotional issues. I have also been trained in EMDR and am working toward certification. EMDR is effecive in treating trauma and other various conditions. My experience and education at Fuller Seminary allows me to be sensitive to spiritual needs of clients, as Fuller is an interdenominational Christian Seminary. I also had the oportunity to study Islam, and read the entire Koran as part of my studies.
Although I have a Christian background, I am non-judgmental and encourage my clients to follow their own beliefs without any influence from me. My role is to inform, and focus on mental health symptoms while allowing the client to pursue their spiritual path in their own way, only offering spiritual guidance when it is requested.
We are complex people. My degree in Systems Science allows me to see the family as a system, with each member playing a part in a complex organization. Often interractions are too complicated to approach on an indivual basis, and Family Therapy is utilized to help bring the family system back into harmony. When functioning well, the family is a powerful engine that can grow wonderful human beings.
